The right training tools can help your dog learn more quickly! Here are some that Teri recommends.
The Gentle Leader head collar is a great tool to teach walking nicely on a leash. This head collar is not a muzzle; dogs can still eat, drink, and fully use their mouths while wearing it.
Nylon and leather collars are the most comfortable and hygienic dog collars. While you might remove your dog’s collar when at home, always make sure to keep his collar, with state license and chip ID, on any time you’re out of the house. These collars aren’t for walking, though, because they can slip off over your dog’s head.
Martingale collars are a safe alternative to choke collars. As long as the martingale is properly adjusted, it will tighten just to the size of the dog’s neck, preventing them from backing out of their collar without choking them.
An indoor lead can remind your dog that he is “on the clock” and still at work, learning his new behaviors. Keep your indoor lead short, and always be aware of your dog’s whereabouts when the indoor lead is on to avoid tangles and troubles.
Dogs need both mental and physical exercises. Kongs and puzzle feeders can keep your dog’s brain occupied (and help with chewing needs).
Ready to have some more fun with your dog? Flirt poles, bells to ring, tug ropes, and balls for fetch can help you bond with your dog and burn off some energy.
Don’t forget the treats to help your dog remember his new behaviors!
